Brief

The clients envisioned a contemporary private residence that serves as both a comfortable home and a sophisticated gallery space. The brief centered on a moody, elegant interior where rich, dark materials contrast with vibrant, oversized pop-surrealist artworks: a ground floor for open-plan living and gatherings, a private upper level with a sprawling master suite and guest accommodations, and a palette built from four core elements - metal, fabric, stone, and wood.

Concept

The design narrative is "Artful Contrast": a space where deep, reflective architectural finishes create a theatrical backdrop for bold, saturated art. By utilizing highly polished wood veneers, textured glass, and heavily veined stone, the interior acts as a moody, refined canvas.

The Oasis Staircase

The architectural staircase  introduces a micro-landscape into the home. The integration of lush greenery beneath the warm, floating wooden treads contrasts beautifully with the sleek, metallic wall art displayed on the landing.

Planing

Layout.  215.5 m² floor plan is strictly zoned. Ground floor is given to a living, dining, and kitchen rooms flowing one into another, with a large island and extended wooden bar dictating the gathering. Upper level is dedicated to: generous master suite with a wardrobe and bathroom, plus two bedrooms.

Vertical Connection. Floating wooden staircase with minimalist glass and metal railings rises through the center of house, anchored at its base by a built-in planter of greenery. It reads less as a circulation element than as the room's organizing gesture - a quiet line drawn between the social ground and the private upper.

Integrated Fireplace

Wall

A floor-to-ceiling volume of high-gloss walnut wraps the room's primary wall, opened at the center by a slab of Rosso Levanto marble that frames the fireplace. The marble does the heavy work - its deep red and white veining drawing the eye and holding the room's color temperature. Classical cornicework runs above, pale plaster relief against dark polished wood.

Material & Atmosphere

The atmosphere is built through deliberate contrasts. High-gloss lacquered walnut paneling wraps the core living spaces and entrance, catching the room's light along its grain. Heavily veined marble carries the architectural weight - from the commanding kitchen island and the Rosso Levanto fireplace surround to the textured stone slabs that line the bathrooms. Warm brass and brushed metallic fixtures introduce a quiet glow, while rippled, textured glass doors diffuse light softly between rooms. Rich brown and amber velvets, soft leathers, and deep-pile rugs ground the polished surfaces and keep them plush.

Wardrobe as  ART

The 21.5 m² master wardrobe is staged like a jewelry box. A custom circular island - wrapped in saddle-stitched leather, topped by Calacatta Viola marble - sits at the center. Above it, a cascading chandelier of handblown glass falls from a bronzed ceiling rondel. The full-height cabinetry is fronted in reflex glass: mirror when the interior lights are off, transparent when on. The dressing table is positioned in natural northern daylight - the only light a serious mirror should be paired with.

The Guest Rooms

The same logic carries upstairs. Each guest room is treated as a private gallery: preserved classical cornicework above, a single large-format pop-surrealist canvas commanding the long wall, a low velvet bed and reading chair arranged in deference to it. The house does not have a B-side - only different audiences.
